Our aspiration or promise is to create a transcendent musical experience for members and audiences – what we call “ear candy for the soul” - by combining the unique talents of a core octet of exceptional singers plus other musicians performing the best of the choral literature.
About OctaVocé+
“Ear candy for the soul”
OctaVocé+ was born in the fall of 2021 out of a desire to create a vocal ensemble of talented musicians from the greater Idaho Falls area whose focus was on creating exceptional and efficient musical experiences by leveraging the advanced skills and talents of its members. It aspires to focus making music in rehearsals on interpreting and re-inventing choral works and making great music and not on learning notes and the basics of scores. Not easy given the hectic lives of its members!
OctaVocé+ members are soloists in their own right and the group offers them opportunities to share their individual talents this way. While the group’s leader is Mark Kerback, its artistic direction is derived from the collective talents of its members - each having the skills to lead others in the creative process of bringing a work to life.
The group’s repertoire derives from a full range of periods, genres, and styles - from the Renaissance to the present day and from classical to jazz - and it is inspired by such groups as the King’s Singers, Voces8, Voctave, and Pentatonix. What sets the ensemble apart from other acapella-only ensembles is + (plus) – the willingness to expand its musical palette by adding other sounds into its mix whether they be from a single piano or guitar accompaniment to a chamber ensemble of musicians.
The group is committed to serving its communities - from family and friends to its broad local community - by performing in a variety of settings such as family gatherings during the holidays singing sacred and secular favorites, performing at community events, and intimate concerts to appreciative audiences who value nuanced performances of the highest quality. Funding for OctaVocé+ comes from the support it receives in offering free-to-its-audiences events, encouraging donations from those capable of contributing to the arts.
Origin of the Name:
OctaVocé+ is loosely derived from the latin for “eight voices plus) describing the core group of 8 vocalists plus the addition of others on an ad hoc basis.
“Octa” from Octave - “a poem or stanza of eight lines; an octet.”
“Vocé” - vocally or “with living voice.”
“+” or plus (from the Latin “et”)
